05-08-24 Sonia is a very sweet girl who will give you little kisses and sniffs but is worried and learning human hands can be kind. Once she knows you she will greet you in the morning with a little tail wag and take treats from your hand, she now wears and walks on a harness and goes out to play in the yard. We are aiming to show Sonia lots of love and that humans can be her friend. Sonia is progressing slowly, but certainly progressing and has started to come for strokes now. Sonia loves her kennel friends and gets lots of comfort and security from the presence of other dogs. Sonia is a sweet girl and deserves to know what being a home dog is all about.
Sonia is nervous of strangers but with quiet words and kind intentions she will approach you to sniff and say hello. She will need an adult only experienced home who will give her the time to adjust. Sonia would like a quiet home, as she can get overwhelmed easily, who will be consistent with her progression and have a kind resident dog that she can learn from and copy to know how to be a dog in a human world. She is such a sweet girl who's trying so hard, she just needs a chance. Although she walks on a harness adopters will need to build a bond with her, give her plenty of time to settle and be mindful that she is new to the UK so may never have seen/heard things we consider normal so will need to be introduced into the big wide world really slowly and put in environments she can grow in confidence and flourish. She has never lived in a home before so she will need help learning new skills and given plenty of understanding as she finds her feet. She is such a lovely girl and we can't wait to show more of her as she settles and for her to find her forever family! Sonia has a passport.
Sonia has been tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis, Borrelia, Babesia and Canine Brucellosis while in the Ukraine between 2022-2023. She did have and was treated for Heartworms but is now negative for Heartworms since 2023. Sonia has also been tested for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis, Borrelia and Canine Brucellosis since her arrival at the rescue using Bionote rapid tests and all were negative. We understand that vets can have differing policies in regards to imported dogs and may request testing again in 3 months hence why these dogs are by a reduced adoption fee. Our rehoming team can provide futher information on the tests completed if required. We will be retesting the dogs again in 3 months if they have not been adopted by then and are happy for adopters to bring their dogs back to the rescue for testing and will only charge the cost of the tests.

Meeting Sonia for the first time today I could see she was a nervous lady, however the more time I spent with her the more she would come up to me. One thing about her is that Squeezy cheese is the ultimate way to her heart and with the help of it, Sonia’s love for treats overtook any suspicion she had of me. She even gave me some kisses! Sonia has been through so much, that this is beyond what I was expecting and I was so proud to see how brave she was. Sonia gets on well with her kennel friends and enjoys being out in the yard exploring her surroundings. She is gaining a little more confidence as the days go by, she just needs someone who understands that it will take time for her to adjust to her new life but also someone who has the time to work with her.

Sonia has come on leaps and bounds since I first met her. She has started to find her voice, but tends to stay on the quiet side when around people. Despite her shyness, she's getting increasingly brave with coming up for a little stroke and will happily take treats from you. Sonia is lead-trained and walks well with her best friends. She is a little strong on the lead, counter to her usually reserved personality, but she is just curious about her surroundings. Despite all she's been through, it's amazing to see her true self start to come through. Her growth in confidence is so heartening to see, and gives a great indication to the dog she'll get to be when safe and comfortable in a loving home.

I’ve had the absolute privilege to have worked with Sonia since her arrival and as the other updates have stated her confidence with people is growing day by day! As a big man I was very intimidating for Sonia and her friends and she was a lot more unsure of me than the women around the rescue, so for any potential male suiters, they will have to spend a little more time gaining Sonia’s trust. I achieved gaining her trust by simply sitting with her and showing that I only have nice and gentle hands with only love for her and she came around in no time. I’m absolutely in love with Sonia, her personality it’s fantastic and I’m already quite jealous of the lucky people that get to take her home. I’m very excited to see what Sonia has in store for her future and I know she’s going to be such a fantastic companion for the right people.

Sonia is a cross breed who has come originally from a charity operating in Ukraine. She is super sweet but also under confident, which is understandable considering her stressful journey across Europe. She walks perfectly on a lead and shares her space and food well with other rescue dogs that she didn't previously know. Another dog would be mandatory for this angel as she needs someone to show her the ropes in a new calming environment where she can learn to live her life again. Despite being timid she has improved since being here and goes on long walks and is ok with distractions like other animals and traffic . Please give Sonia the chance she more than deserves.
