11-10-2024 Zion is a gorgeous boy who has come to us from a breeder and is looking for an adult only home with adopters who are experienced with the breed. He will need lots of help and comfort while he settles in and his adopters will need to provide the security and guidance he needs to truly flourish. Due to his past experiences, Zion is very mistrusting of people, and will need a patient, quiet and undestanding home while he learns that not all people are so bad. As he is very nervous around people, he will need to be in an adult only home with no children, or visting children, and at least one resident dog to assure him while he settles into his new home. Since he has not had the chance to live in a home, he will need some pateince as he learns new skills such as house training and home life. He doesn't yet walk on a lead, but this is something we will start working on with him and we think once he is more confident, he will enjoy going for walks so will be looking for an active home. Zion is a beautiful boy that is really looking for someone to take a chance on him, so he can learn kindness and compassion and learn to build a new positive outlook on life and people.

Zion has flourished since he first arrived. He is now a cheeky chops with a zest for life we don't see very often at the rescue! He's ready for his next step for sure. Zion is confident with people he knows, LOVES a fuss around his face and neck, and is a super playful boy. He didn't know what toys were but he's decided that soft toys are the better ones! Today I took him out on a harness, no pressure or expectations, just to get him used to the feeling of it, and show him that the big wide world awaits his eagerness. We started in the yard and he was a pro straight away so I took him out onto the pathways around the centre. He did super well, sniffing and weeing, but very quickly felt unsafe and wanted to go back to his kennel. Zion doesn't like to feel cornered, but with patience and a playful voice he will approach you in his own time. I think Zion is right on the cusp of potentially being able to go home without a resident dog, and as the days go on he will only grow more confident, so I think in the right home, with the right experienced humans, Zion could go home as an only dog. This would mean he'd need extra help along with toilet training and new experiences, as he wouldn't have a resident dog to copy and learn from, but I think once he has a good bond with someone he will take confidence in them. I've looked after him for 4 days in total and he trusts me! He was depending heavily on me when he felt unsure on his harness, and is constantly waiting at the front of his kennel for any opportunity that I can give him more of my time. When I open his kennel door he gets SO excited for any interaction I can offer! I really hope Zion isn't waiting in kennels for much longer, especially now the temperature has dropped. He deserves the whole world and more!

Zion my baby boy! Why is Zion still waiting? He's such a precious man! He is still a little nervous and hesitant, but he has come into himself a lot more now. He is still nervous of staff who haven't looked after him very much, but with me he's a confident, playful little (big) smush! He's a pro at walking on lead now, as long as he's with a human he trusts. Someone commented today on the difference in his character when he's with other humans in comparison to when he's with me. They said they'd never seen that side of him before- this goes to show that you just need a solid, trusting bond with him and he will thrive! He is pretty toilet clean in his kennel and so hopefully this will transfer into a home with ease! Zion loves his doggy friendsbut is now brave enough to be an only dog in the right home!
Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
