18-11-2024 Jake came to us from a breeder around a month ago, he was adopted but unfortunately has been returned to us. Jake is a very friendly boy with adults and is so much fun to be around. He loves to play and will jump up for a hug when he greets you! Although he was homed in an adult only home, he would encounter young children on walks and in social environments like pubs and cafes and would become very stressed by their presence and could behave unpredictably. For this reason, Jake will need an adult only home without children, or visiting children. He would need to be walked and socialsed in quieter areas where there are no children around. If he was to socialise in busier areas we would reccomend muzzle training him to keep him safe.
Jake has not had a chance to explore a garden without being on a lead, so he will still need some guidance on recall. However, we are told Jake was excelent at being clean in the house, and is toilet trained. He also finds a friend in most adults he meets!
He is very active and strong, so is looking for an active home and will need some additional work while walking on a lead as he is just so excited and loves the outdoors and exploring! Jake does travel well in the car, but does not do well with being handled by or near his collar, or if someone tries to give him a fuss or handle him from behind.
Jake could easily be homed as an only dog as long as his adopters were around most of the time. Jake does need to be homed as an only dog, as he loves attention all to himself, and can act out with other dogs in his presence and he cannot live with cats. Jake will need to be homed with breed experienced adopters that have the patience and time to work with Jake on becoming the goodest boy we know he can become!

01-12-2024 UPDATE

From looking after Jakey since his return I have learnt he is a very sound sensitive boy. Any loud noises and he really can't cope- because of this he will always need a slip lead on when out and about, as when a loud noise happens he can freak and he does all of the motions that would result in him slipping a harness or collar. Once the noise quitens down he calms down and returns to his usual self. In his kennel he struggles when dogs around him bark, but when it's all quiet he will lay in bed chewing a toy. Jake LOVES herding balls (boomer balls) and I think given the opportunity he would play with a herding ball all day long! He also loves his carers and wants nothing more than to be with me all the time, getting all the love he can possibly get. Here at the centre he gets too stressed in any of the yards as there is a lot going on around them and he gets very "collie stressed", he much prefers going for long, calm, quiet walks. Jakey needs a collie experienced home, ideally somewhere rural and quiet, adult only, with no visiting children. He happily wears a muzzle when needed (eg. passing the front of the rescue where it can be very busy and noisy.) He has his quirks, and struggles to regulate himself- but from what I've seen this is only around big, loud + unpredictable noises- I think in a calm, quiet environment, Jake will thrive and do really well. I just hope he isn't waiting here for long.
This boy needs a rural, collie savvy home with a job to do and then he will thrive

15-12-24 UPDATE

Please watch to the end to find out what kind of home Jake is looking for.

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
