03-10-2024 Augustine is a worried and timid soul that has come to us from a breeder with a closed umbilical hernia which the vet will asses when she's spayed and repair if necessary. A true heartbreaker as she has not had much experience around people and seeks comfort in her kennel mates. She has no confidence and has not had the chance to grow into her own personality. She would suit best in a home with experienced adopters as she needs to be shown a lot of care and love to find who she is supposed to become. She has not had much experience in a home, and would need guidance on proper house trainings, and how to walk on a lead. She would do best in an adult-only home, and another resident dog for her to seek comfort in. Augustine is just needing someone to give her a chance!
19-10-24 UPDATE
Augustine is a very frightened and confused girl. Since arriving at the rescue we’ve taken the time to try handling her more each day and to other treats and cheese but to no avail yet. It’s heartbreaking to see such a young girl have so much worry, concern and doubt. She really doesnt know about anything good yet, and it’s so easy to see that she’s never been exposed to much. She will take treats if we throw them from afar and can be a little tricky to handle.
She has taken a liking to her friend Amour and is attached to her hip, but we feel that they may be holding each other back as they are very shut down.
Whilst in her kennel she will spend all of her time in the back, even when food comes out. In the yard she opens up a little and has investigated some of the toys we have but hasn’t quite worked out how to use them yet.
Augustine will need adopters who have experience in ex breeders and a friendly pooch in the household to show her the ropes of living in a home. Beyond understanding adopters, Augustine needs time more than anything. Time to learn about life and everything it has to offer. A young girl like her should be care-free, full of confidence and energy, but Augustine has a lot of baggage and just needs someone to care for her in a way she’s not had yet.
At the moment we believe Augustine would be best suited to an adult only home with no visiting children. We’re desperately hoping someone can help this girl begin her new life.
04-11-2024 UPDATE
Augustine got moved to my section a couple of weeks ago and the difference in her in such a short amount of time has been incredible. For the first few days she was very quiet, very withdrawn, and would hide away in the back of her kennel. That all changed within the first week and she now greets me with a very waggy tail every time she sees me, she’s happy to approach me to give my hand lots of kisses and take treats from me, and he is also very slowly starting to accept a gentle fuss under her chin while she’s kissing me. She does back away after a few seconds, but the fact she lets me do it at all is amazing!!! I think being so young, and also being put in a kennel with friendly dogs is helping massively with her progress and I can’t wait to see the milestones she conquers over the next few weeks with me. Again being so young, Augustine has a major playful side to her and she absolutely loves running around in the play yard with her friends, and also playing with toys too! At first she wouldn’t touch them in front of me, but now she’s more than happy to take a Nylabone into bed with her and chew away while I’m watching. It’s actually lovely to see her do this because for this short while, she almost looks like a normal dog, and this gives me such hope for her future. It would be lovely if she could be homed with a friendly but playful resident dog who could match her energy, and also cuddle with her when playtime is over. That would be a dream come true for her, and me too! She does still have a long way to go, especially with being handled, but I’m super proud of how well she’s doing at the rescue and I really do think that she’ll blossom in the right home. She just needs to be given a chance.
06-12-24 UPDATE
Today I took miss Augustine into the grooming room for the first time just to give her a very small spruce up to introduce her to the world of grooming. I trimmed the hair around her eyes and gave her a very gently brush and even though she was very scared, she did really well. She also took treats from me while she was in there which is actually pretty huge considering she was on her own with no other dogs around. I put a little bandana on her just to take a picture and how beautiful does she look!?
Augustine’s biggest fear is still being picked up, but when she’s in your arms she does settle okay. This is the main thing I’m going to work on with her in the hopes that she will slowly get used to it. Being in kennels makes it a little more difficult and I do think she’ll progress faster in a home, but I’ll keep doing what I'm doing for the time she’s with me.
Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
