Irla ^
|
12-09-24 Irla has come from her breeder to find a loving home but she is feeling very overwhelmed at the moment. She has arrived with sore ears and skin that our vet will be treating and she needs a dental when she is spayed. She will try her best to get away from you as she has no idea why you want to be going towards her but once you pick her up she is gentle and will wait quietly in your arms. This girl needs some TLC in a calm and quiet home where she can learn all about the new world she has found herself in. Irla will need an adopter who is experienced in scared ex breeding dogs and understands how to gentle encourage her forwards. She will need at least one kind resident dog in her new home that can reassure her in the only way she understands at the moment as well as show her the ropes of home life. She will need to learn from scratch about house training and eventually how to walk on a lead and harness and will need safe areas to practice this before she can walk confidently and enjoy her walkies. She has much to learn but a dog like Irla is so rewarding and you will be so proud as she starts to let go of her fears and begin to enjoy her new life.
14-09-24 UPDATE
Irla has now had a dental and needed to have ten teeth removed. She may need another dental in the future. She had her ears flushed as they have been extremely sore and she is on medication for severe ear infection and possible pseudomonas and this treatment will need to continue for some time until her ears are comfortable.
29-09-24 UPDATE
Irla is an extremely timid little lady who will shake when approached by strangers. She heavily relies on her kennel pals for confidence and will 100% need at least one resident dog (ideally a friendly & confident) in her new home to show her the ropes of home life. When you’re outside her kennel she comes across as somewhat confident but as soon as you enter she will run and hide in her bed. She will allow you to pick her up and fuss her but doesn’t understand why but shows no signs of fear biting, she just freezes. Irla very much mirrors other dogs around her and therefore is more nervous when mixed with other nervous dogs. I believe kennel environment is also making her more timid as it can be quite overwhelming here for some dogs and a home would be a much better place for her to decompress
24-10-2024 UPDATE
Irla has made a lot of progress in the past couple of weeks and I am so proud of her!! I think a lot of it has been to do with the kennel friends that she now has. When she first arrived, she was kennelled with a few other dogs who were very scared and worried about us humans, so she stuck with them and stayed away. Now, her friends are very confident and love to come up to me for a fuss, so I think she’s finally starting to realise that maybe she doesn’t need to be afraid of me. She’s still not at the stage of approaching me for a cuddle or anything like that yet, but she will come over and give my fingers a little kiss and also take food from me too. This may not sound like much, but she wouldn’t do it before so it’s definitely progress!! Irla’s adopters will need to be very calm, understanding and patient with her when she first gets home as she may find everything a little overwhelming. In time, I am hopeful that she will gain the confidence to blossom and turn into a wonderful little companion. The help of a kind resident dog will be crucial and she will learn absolutely everything from them .. as well as some very lovely adopters who will never give up on her no matter what! So, can anyone give her a chance soon?
04-12-24 UPDATE
I took my lovely girl Irla into the grooming room today for a mini spa day, just us girls! It was the first time I’ve taken her in there so I didn’t want to overdo it with her, but I did give her a little brush and a fringe trim, and put some nice perfume on her too. She was SUCH a good girl and laid down in the bed like an angel. She was even brave enough to take some yummy liver paste from me while we were in there (which maybe doesn’t sound like a lot, but it’s actually huge)! Irla is still a timid girl who is wary of us humans, but she definitely has a curiosity about her which I think will help her when she settles in her new home. She watches me so tentatively and likes to know what I’m doing and what’s going on, but she’s still not quite brave enough to approach me on her own accord. That is okay though because realistically we are still in the early days, and it’s always a lot harder for these poor dogs to make progress at the rescue. I am hoping very much that this pretty little girl will find her special forever home by Christmas …. Can anyone help!?
Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
