04-07-2024 Reuben is a boy in need of a very loving and gentle home.  He has come to us from a breeder and is easy to handle but also easily spooked.  Reuben is such a gentle boy and needs to see our vet to have his ears and eyes checked and he has some hair loss which we are hopeful will start to grow back once he is settled.  Reuben will need a home where there is at least one other dog to help him adjust and settle into life in a home.  He will need to learn about house training but he will watch his new friend(s) and start to copy what they so which will help him pick this up faster.  Reuben needs a calm and peaceful home but we would consider homing him with senior school aged children who are really gentle and kind.  In time, Reuben will learn that his new life is wonderful and full of nothing but love and in time he will start to relax and return his adopter love.  He has a Pets Travel Document.

13-07-24 UPDATE
Reuben has had a few teeth extracted when he was neutered. He has been on ear medication which is working very well for him.

17-07-24 UPDATE

Reuben is the kind of dog you look at and your heart melts every time. Despite being 5 he has a bit of a sad old man face but you can see there is a wonderful boy waiting to come out. He gets a lot of his confidence from his retriever kennel mate and when she’s around, she greets you with a very waggy tail and will have a sniff of your hands. He will allow you to give gentle fusses and is getting a lot more accepting of this over time. He’s now learnt to walk on lead, although a little nervous with it, he is doing well. He is really improving here but I think he needs to be in a home now to reach his full potential. I think it’s hard not to fall in love with Reuben, he is such a sweet soul.

07-08-24 UPDATE

Reuben is a shy boy, typical of an ex-breeding dog. Last night he was alone in his kennel, it was too late to have found him a friend. This morning he looked so sad, peeping out from the bedroom, not even coming out for his mid morning meal, I had to put his bowl in the bedroom to get him to eat. Then, we found a new friend for him, and in the blink of an eye, he turned into a more confident dog, skipping around the kennel, tail wagging! He's now a happy bunny with a smile on his face. We've found that Reuben prefers female company so we'd only home him with other girls. We ventured out for a short walk today, he's such a gent on the lead, we met some cats and he was scared of them, and wouldn't get close to them, so he can live with cats.

20-08-24 UPDATE
Reuben is receiving treatment for irritation in his left ear which has a small wound on the flap, which has been shaved and cleaned. He is doing well.

04-09-24 UPDATE

Reuben is an absolute heartbreaker that is so incredibly adorable but is struggling with kennel life and is still very reliant on other dogs. He’s not a fan of males but has been kennelled with females of all sizes. He walks on a lead and does particularly well when walking with another dog. He’s a very gentle soul and accepts fuss well, but will not approach you to ask for it. Instead you will usually find him in the back of his kennel with his head hung low, wondering what on earth is coming next.
Ruben is a lot shyer around people he’s not met before and doesn’t really know what to do with himself, but does show interest from a distance - at heart, he’s understanding that we’re not going to hurt him but the environment hasn’t allowed him to settle and explore his confidence. I’m sure in a home he’ll start to find his feet a lot quicker than here. That being said, he is a little more confident around his main carers. He plays nicely with his kennel buddies and yard time with them is his favourite time. Rueben deserves the absolute best life, and with how sad he is, I just wish I could tell him what’s waiting for him. Reuben has had very little interest, he hides when visitors are around, so if you have a space on your sofa for this gentlest yet shy soul, please consider giving him a chance.

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
