14-07-24 Dragon originally came to us a few weeks ago after he was saved from the pound. We are told that he was found tied up and dumped and if rescue space wasn't found he would be put to sleep and so we of course agreed to take him. At the rescue, Dragon has been the most wonderful boy. Here he has been a little pocket rocket with an infectious personality and he seemed to love humans and was incredibly people focused. He has also been great with dogs and shared well with them.
Dragon was adopted but sadly within 24 hours in his new home, he started acting very out of character for himself and was growling at the adopters and nipped the male in the household, seemingly for no reason. Dragon is now back at the rescue where he is being assessed and where the kennel staff are working with him daily - but it's possible his issues may only arise in a home envrionment.
Dragon will be looking for an adult only home, where there are no visiting children and with an adopter who has experience with dogs with behavioural issues and who will be dedicated to working through these with him. He will need an adopter who is kind, but firm and we think he would benefit from learning agility or similar where he can use his clever brain. He already knows basic commands such as "sit" and "paw" and so we think he would really benefit from attending training classes too. He loves to go for walks so would be looking for an active home. We feel like Dragon may have lived in a home previously, so he may be house trained but he may need to learn this. Dragon would live with other dogs or could be an only dog. He is a great boy and we think in the right home envronment he will truly thrive.

21-08-24 UPDATE
Dragon has had an unsettled start in life, he was briefly adopted from us but sadly the family that adopted him found he displayed a few behaviours they were not equipped to deal with such as resource guarding, we feel this may have been brought on by stress,(he is sensitive). Dragon is just a baby really and yet is already super smart and fast, he loves to run, jump and catch. We regularly visit the centres new agility yard, where Dragon loves to dart through the tunnel, fly over the jumps or totter along the beam. He is slowly learning that fetch is a two player game but sometimes needs some convincing and it can take a bit of gentle persuasion to get him to drop his ball for you to throw again. He knows sit, walks beautifully on lead and is learning wait as he can be very quick off the mark and likes to grab at things. Equally, today it was pouring at the rescue and I spent a good while with him curled up sleeping on my lap, which shows as much as he loves to run and jump he can also relax. This gorgeous full of life boy, is a classic terrier and he will be quick to outwit you, for this reason we feel a home with humans that have knowledge of terrier breeds would be helpful but equally if you are willing to work with him and learn about the breed and what suits him than you will do well together. Dragon gets on with some dogs but can be a little over the top and for this reason we think going to a home where he can be the only pooch would suit him best, he is also so comfortable with people that being the only dog will not bother him. Since being at the rescue I have noticed that he is not keen on being left and a home where you can be around most of the time or take him with you would be best. Dragon will be suited to an adult only home and where there will be no visiting young (under 12) children and any that do visit will be supervised. This boy is a wonderful dog and if you are an energetic, terrier loving human than you and this boy could enjoy some wonderful adventures.

26-09-24 UPDATE

Are you tired of seeing all these cute, little, fluffy puppies everywhere!? Dreams of that robust, loyal, outdoor loving companion are about to come true! Meet Dragon (Serious Applications ONLY). Dragon has been at Many tears rescue for around 4 months now. However i have only had the pleasure of working with him for the last 3 weeks. As you can see from his write ups above he has had a bit of a whirlwind start to life. He arrived with us and was adopted quite fast, but was returned for some naughty behaviour towards his new adopting home. Special dogs like Dragon need much more time to adjust in new environments, and time is needed for you to see the best side of him.
The first day i worked with Dragon...I entered his kennel and i was greeted with a wagging tail, i went down low and said hello with a happy voice and he was climbing over me with excitement, he was an absolute delight, putting a lead on him and walking him was also a delight. He was just a perfect little guy, then day 3 came. So Dragon bonded quite quickly, and after learning I’m no threat he did start to show some of his quirks. He can become quite protective of his people. Strangers need to be introduced in a certain way and he would be best muzzled whilst the introduction is initiated.
Dragon is quite motivated by food and we use this to our advantage when training him. Dragon is learning how to be happy whilst muzzled, so that as and when needed he can wear it with no stress. Dragon has spent a lot of yard time with various other small-medium breeds, and although he can show some interest to females he will stop if told, with no aggression on his side, he will then just continue to sniff and play with his toys. Dragon could be homed with other dogs pending a meet and greet at the rescue or as an only dog. Dragon just loves to be with his people and loves to do everything any other dog does. Walks and new adventures are his favourite. He can go for hours so he would need a home that is active enough to achieve this. Children of any and all ages wouldn’t be considered in Dragons new home, that would include any visiting children. When Dragon is on lead and walking he isn’t reactive to other passing dogs, but he does like to say hello to all FRIENDLY dogs.

This is my 4th week working with Dragon now and he definitely knows who i am, and i am able to do things with him that other staff members would struggle with, unless he knows them well. So in his new home the new adopters (this wont apply to single applicants) would need to spend equal amounts of time with him and show him that both are the main care givers such as sharing food responsibilities would definitely help, walking together so he bonds with all that would be In his life.
Any new people would need to be introduced correctly.

Today i was given a very special task. My task today was to take Dragon to my own home to assess how he would be in a new environment/home. Dragon was an excellent co pilot in the car journey to my house, he just laid on his seat and didn’t make a peep. He wasn’t frightened and just seemed happy to find out where we were going. When I arrived at my house he jumped out the car with amazing curiosity to what was around him, and the noises he was hearing (my own dogs barking). I wanted to introduce him to one of my more trickier ladies who is also a patterdale terrier. He met her with perfect manners and after the hello sniffs were done Dragon thought he had skipped straight to his 3rd date and decided to try and get a little humpy. My lady graciously said no with a smile and he left it at that.We then proceeded to have a sniff and a walk around my 11 acre plot. He absolutely loved every second of being out. He met my xat with curiosity and wasn’t overly fussed but as time was passing i could see him getting more interested and if my cat was to have ran I’m very sure he would have chased and because of this reason he definitely needs a cat free/little furry animals home. After a 45 minute walk we commenced into my secure area where i have another 16 dogs. They are all small-medium breeds no bigger than a cocker and he met them all really well…my guys are very welcoming but very in your face and he coped with that well and didn’t react negatively in any way. After the hellos were done he proceeded to sniff around and explore the house smells. He didn’t seem overly bothered about my dogs being here and was more than happy to do his own thing. That being said when my dogs started to play with one another and run around I could see a slight prey drive ready to kick in and if a smaller dog than himself was to run around I fear this may confuse his vision. Play time with a dog his size or bigger could definitely go the right way. After spending a couple of hours at my home it was time to take him back to the rescue and he was very sad about leaving.

Dragon is extremely intelligent and he knows when you’re trying to trick him into doing things with boring treats or toys. For example if you’re trying to get him in to the yard he wont go to his kennel he will go and wait by the sections entry gate. You can almost always get him to do what you need with a high value snack, if you try and use his favourite toy to get him somewhere he is smart to this and wont fall for it. That being said when you do use a high value treat he will come in but then when you leave he knows and can be a little unhappy about it and will try to push out the door when you leave. However if you tell him to sit, reward, and then with a serious voice tell him to stay he will sit there and not move, and look at you with his sad eyes as you leave his kennel.

Dragon is a very special boy and in the right hands he would make someone very proud! If I wasn’t in the position I’m in currently with dogs i would have him no questions asked! If you’d like to know more please feel free to ring the rescue and ask for Dan. I will allow my number to be passed on to SERIOUS apps only and discuss anything you’d like to know more of. Thank you for reading.

27-11-24 UPDATE
Dragons kennel dad has now taken Dragon home on foster until he finds his forever home. Dragon continues to amaze us in a home setting after only being in our foster care for 1 week. With Dragon starting to decompress from kennels and get used to the routine of a home, his true and unique personality is starting to shine through. Dragon really is settling into his foster home with us, he’s toileting outside, playing with other dogs well, he is very respectful of other dogs and very well mannered , he’s crate training is going SO well .. playing with all the toys (HE LOVES TOYS, and does rip up some teddies but this is a good way for his ‘breed’ to have an outlet so we simply allow him to, he doesn’t not swallow any toys etc) he isn’t destructive and doesn’t seem to want to want to chew any furniture etc. Due to Dragons high energy, he prefers to have adventures rather than the same routine walk and would really benefit from different walks daily, and being fully enriched. This can even be him climbing logs (safety) him sniffing in the long grass for food rewards, training work, obedience training, the list is endless and he’s so fun to work with!! We are really hoping his people are put there somewhere. He needs someone to continue to training which we’ve started here, continue to face any challenges with him that may arise in the settling progress, and someone who will just accept him for being ‘him.
