EVITA NEEDS TO BE HOMED WITH AZALIA
05-04-24 Evita has come to us from a home with her friend Azalia, due to a change in their owners circumstances. They need to be homed together as they are a very bonded pair.
Evita is a very frightened and mistrustful little girl whose life has been turned upside down. She is feeling very worried at the moment. Evita is very scared by sudden movements and can growl if you go too fast with her. We are told that she did nip through fear in her previous home and so will be looking for an experienced home for her. Once in your arms, she does settle and we think with time, love and kindness she will start to come out of her shell and put trust in you and will really blossom into the most amazing girl. She can walk on a lead but is easily spooked and will panic and try to back out of her collar and flee. Any adopters would need to gradually build her confidence and get her used to walking in quiet and safe areas and she would need to be double leaded for extra security. Evita can jump surprisingly high, so will be looking for an extremely secure garden where any fences were 6 ft plus. We are told that she is house trained, but she may need some reminders of this in her new home. She will need a cat free home. Evita and Azalia together will need an adult only home without any other dogs. She is a sweet girl and in the right circumstances she is going to really thrive, so please don't leave her waiting too long. Evita has a Grade 1 Heart murmur which does not currently require medication but will need to be monitored by adopters vets.
25-06-24 UPDATE
Azalia and Evita are two of the sweetest and funniest dogs you will ever meet! Both have such characters and you will love them for their unique personalities. Azalia is silly, friendly, and full of kisses! She will warm up to you quickly and be your best cuddle buddy. Evita takes a little bit longer to feel comfortable with you, and does seem to bond to one person. Italian greyhounds can be quite sensitive dogs and she can find loud voices or harsh tones scary, but once she trusts you, you will see how very sweet and affectionate she actually is. Evita and Azalia together will need an adult only home without any other dogs and cats.
Don’t let their size fool you, both Evita and Azalia love their walks and adventures! They are active little dogs, but also love to curl up on the couch and sleep for hours on end.
These two are bonded, and once you bring them home you will see why. Just like any siblings, they can get grumpy with one another, but it doesn’t take long before they are cuddling and playing again!
31-07-24 UPDATE
Evita and Azalia are still looking for their perfect forever home! These two have been enjoying lots of outings to the beach and in the woodlands - perfect for their high energy and need for mental stimulation! Without enough activity or stimulation, they will make their own entertainment! It is important to note that these are NOT low maintenance dogs, and a strong knowledge about the breed is required to give these two their perfect home. Italian Greyhounds are sensitive emotionally and to the heat/cold. This will help to inform your training with them and their attire given the weather! They also require the appropriate harness, as their little bodies can easily slip out. Because of their speed (up to 25-30 mph!!) and high prey drive, a home with a 6ft + fence is required, and off leashing them is not recommended. Azalia will prove this by leaping from stand-still up to 6ft, just to plant a kiss on you! Both these girls are velcro dogs, they love to be by your side as much as possible. For Italian Greyhounds, their human is their world. They thrive on your attention, and don't do well left alone for long periods of time. Azalia and Evita both have perfect comedic timing, and seem to be fluent in English - knowing 'Bed time' 'Hungry?' and 'Walkies!'. Evita seems to be fearful towards other dogs, being reactive to them on walks, which is why it's so important that she goes with Azalia (her best friend) so she isn't lonely. You'll see how bonded they are, grooming, cuddling, and playing with one another. With these two around, you will be in for plenty of laughs and a heart full of love. They are a very special pair and look forward to being welcomed into your home.
03-10-24 UPDATE
Evita and Azalia are hoping to find their forever home before the holidays!
This gorgeous duo are still available and have been busy these past few weeks. Since their last update, both have been working on their leash manners and how to heel. We rented a fully enclosed 6ft fence field for them to have some time to stretch their legs off leash and practiced recall, which is a work in progress and their new owners would need to keep practicing this with them in a safely fenced environment.
We are especially proud of Evita meeting another Italian Greyhound. It seems she is leash reactive with other dogs but was brave enough to sniff another iggy when held in our arms, although she did a quiet growl she seemed more curious than aggressive. Azalia on the other hand seems nervous of other dogs while on leash, but not reactive.
Evita is very playful which has come through more as she's adjusted to our home and is able to express her full personality. She seems to have more energy than Azalia, although both need ample exercise or else they become bored and find ways to entertain themselves. Please keep this in mind as they are not lazy dogs and need an active home.
Azalia and Evita had their first human house guests come over, and while Azalia became best friends with them right away, Evita was cautious and nervous. Over the course of a few hours though Evita warmed up greatly and was comfortable cuddling with her new human friends. This is huge progress from when she first arrived in foster and was very nervous of people and especially men. It is important to keep this in mind as adopted dogs usually need about 3 months to settle into the home and their new family before bringing new people to the house.
It's been so much fun to see these two really shine as their true selves, and they have such lovely personalities. They are looking for a human who is prepared to become their whole world, and in return you will have two amazing best canine friends!
