30-04-2024 Owl is a very sweet but timid girl who has come to us from a breeder.  She arrived here with her coat shaved and is not familiar being around people and freezes when handled and drools as she is not used to kind hands touching her.  Owl needs a calm adult only home where she can get the love and kindness she deserves and there must be at least one kind dog who will allow her to cuddle up to them for support and comfort if she wants to.  Owl has never been in a home so this is going to be completely overwhelming at first and she will need owners with endless time and patience to help her learn about house training etc.  At first the garden may be as scary and the inside of the home so her adopters needs to be calm and patience if this is the case.  She has no idea about lead walking and this is something her new owners will need to work on once they have gained her trust.  They will need to start practising in the garden and then progress outside in quiet areas. In time and with owners who really understand her needs Owl will slowly start to flourish and become the happy girl she should have always been.

10-05-24 UPDATE
Owl has seen our vets to be neutered and is receiving treatment for hyperplasia in both ears. Owl has had a dental at the same time with 1 tooth removed. The vets have removed both hind dew claws as they were detached and injuries already present. She is recovering well after surgery.

26-06-24 UPDATE

Owl (known as Penny in foster) has been in foster for 6 weeks now.
She is a feisty, lively little lady who is finding her feet slowly but surely in our mad house.
She was prone to tonic immobility when she first arrived and was a bite and flight risk. She has formed a friendship with our gentle whippet bitch and is now happily able to go in and out of the house to toilet. We leave pee pads down just in case as she is happy using these also but this is much less frequent now she confident outdoors.
She is very playful with our dogs and spends lots of time running about, stealing toys and socks and anything else she can. She is now able to come forward and take food from our hands as long as the other dogs are with her.
She is not ready to be touched yet and we’re not going to rush this process. She is coming forward all the time and willing to come and check out an offered hand/take food and come when she’s called, but she finds doorways quite frightening and if you move too quickly it spooks her and she can panic. Due to this and the risk of her biting, we would advise strictly no children.
She is happily going into her crate by herself at night time and sleeps all the way through with no issues at all, and all in all is recovering really well.
I’ve done some basic shaping with her to a mat and she is bright and smart and cottoned onto this idea very quickly- she loves food!
She has a harness that I will eventually be using to take her on short walks but for now, she is just not ready for this step. She’s not a shy retiring dog, and once she comes out of her shell she is absolutely not afraid to be very vocal about what she wants!
Owl will need an experienced home and people who understand that it will take time for her to trust and that that process cannot be rushed. She absolutely needs a calm and happy dog to follow and learn from. The video links show her with our Whippet bitch, learning to play and finally being relaxed enough outdoors to join in a food hunt.

17-08-24 UPDATE
Owl who we call Penny is growing into such a happy little lady! She is looking much fitter and happier in herself now and her fur is starting to grow back so her proper colour is starting to come through. She is now able to come when she is called, and come in and out of the house successfully to toilet- we can even leave the door open for her to come in and out as she pleases. She can get stuck with doorways on occasion and this can result in a lot of very chatty barking as she tells you she isn’t happy!
When in the house she follows us from room to room and she happily pops into her crate and sleeps soundly at night. Penny is still not happy for us to touch her- she is getting closer, but given how quick she is to slip into a tonic state when frightened, I’m not willing to push this yet or risk flooding her. She is taking treats from the hand much more confidently and can recall to do this, including from my 8 year old daughter who she is happy to sit next to on the couch.
She is becoming much less reactive to noise and we are hearing much less alarm barking from her now, but she does find windows spooky! Penny really wants a person with a big heart and lots of patience. She’s made huge strides and in the right hands will grow into a wonderful companion. She needs a house where she will have at least one strong and confident dog to be best friends with and someone who understands that it may take a long time to be able to touch her.

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
