If you are interested in adopting a dog that does not say it can be homed with a cat and wish us to cat test please let us know and we will be happy to do this.
30-07-24 Betsy has been returned after she was adopted because she is quite afraid of people and this has not yet improved and she will hide away.
Betsy is such an awesome little dog, she LOVES food and will do anything for food and this is the way to her heart. Betsy doesn’t really engage much with other dogs, but each day she is coming out of the shell and interacting more with them. Betsy needs another kind resident dog (who is bigger than her as she can be over playful with smaller dogs!) who will allow her to settle and not want to overally play with her, but provide reassurance in a calm way to help her with her confidence around people. Betsy is quite mistrustful when it comes to handling, she has some deep rooted trauma and if you go to pick her up or handle her when she doesn’t expect it or doesn’t want to be, she will let out a big cry to tell you she’s uncomfortable. She hasn’t ever bitten and we don’t feel like she will and it’s just fear, but for this reason she needs no visiting children and no children in home. Betsy is learning to wear a harness and this will take time. Her adopters need to be experienced in ex-breeders and give her time to settle and not have high expectations. Betsy makes me laugh daily, and her home needs to be the right one. She is such a softy and a huge cuddle monster. She is absolutely fine being cuddled once she knows you and if she willingly comes up to you, and puts her front 2 paws on your legs she will allow you to pick her up easily, so it’s just earning trust and time.
14-08-24 UPDATE
Oh Betsy, I promise your forever people are out there somewhere! We just have to find them for you. Betsy is continuing to slowly excel in her foster home. We have worked with Betsy, and discovered that when SHE’S ready, and all on HER terms, she allows you to pick her up without crying and making no noise. Betsy will only do this with people she’s 100% comfortable with and there is no point attempting to pick her up if you don’t know her, or haven’t created a bond. If you do need to pick up Betsy (there are occasions where you need to and she isn’t ready) she will still cry but this doesn’t advance more than a cry ~ it’s all just fear. Betsy does panic if you corner her and pick her up (we are working on this) and there have been times she’s willingly come up to me and allowed her to be picked up. Betsy is SO funny, and makes my day. She’s such a character and will add life into any home she’s in. We will slowly start harness training her and take it all in baby steps. Betsy loves cuddles on the bed and will lick your face like crazy and jump all over you which is lovely to see. Betsy doesn’t ask for much, she doesn’t want an overly active home and very happy to lounge about and do some mind games/ puzzles and using her brain. She needs someone who will go at her pace and not rush things and are used to ex-breeders. P.S - we are working on grooming Betsy, we are aware she needs a haircut, she isn’t a fan of being groomed so it’s a work in progress.
26-08-24 UPDATE
Betsy overcame a big hurdle of hers today! I’d like to think Betsy 99% trusts me now. 99% of the time she will allow me to pick her up without crying and settles in my arms quicker. She will only let you do this when she knows and trusts you. The other 1% , she will still cry when you go towards her telling you she’s not comfortable right now, I stop immediately and give her space and we’ve practised this over and over and she’s improved massively. She really must have some deep rooted trauma.
Today, she let me pick her up and fit a harness on her. Only now I felt like she’s ready to start wearing her harness in the day and she’s bossing it - happy girly all around. Next challenge is a groom, we will take this all at her pace and update how she goes! Betsy really isn’t a difficult dog, once she knows you she’s very trusting. She cuddles me In bed, sleeps upside down right next to me, plays with me and jumps all over me. She just needs time.
28-08-24 UPDATE
Betsy needs that special someone that won’t give up on her, are you that person?
This little girly truly breaks my heart and we’ve formed such a strong bond recently, I can see past those scared eyes, can you? Betsy has been returned to the rescue TWICE, after both homes weren’t experienced enough to be able to handle Betsy. Betsy has come straight back into foster with myself both times and this time it HAS to be right.
Betsy is a very special girl to me. Once she knows you, and trusts you, she is your best friend. I’d like to think Betsy trusts me now.. Yes, she has her timid side and yes she isn’t always up to being picked up, but 99% of the time she allows me to now and will panic at the start but almost leaps into my arms for safety. Betsy is mistrustful of people she doesn’t know, because of this she cannot be homed with young children or any visiting children. Betsy needs a kind resident dog who will allow her to cuddle with them and retreat to them for some confidence if she wants to.
Betsy is learning what the world has to offer, at her pace, are you able to offer her that? Are you able to allow her to open up over time? Betsy is such a character and makes me laugh all the time, her favourite thing In the whole entire world is food! Betsy does such a happy food dance whilst she’s waiting for it to be served. Food is the way to her heart. Today, Betsy went into the rescue to have a groom, and she was so good, she wasn’t a fan of having her face done but we got there in the end. Betsy allows you to brush her once she’s settled so her future adopters need to keep on top of her lovely coat! Betsy doesn’t ask for much, a warm cosy bed, a doggy companion who she can lean on for reassurance, a relatively quiet home with no children.
14-09-24 UPDATE
Betsy is really is your best friend when she trusts you. Each morning and night, me and Betsy have our little routine where she’ll come up to me in bed for a big cuddle and kisses! She rolls all over my lap and nuzzles into me for more love. What more can we want? Betsy needs a kind but playful resident dog who will allow her to settle and snuggle up in dog beds if she chooses too. No children or visiting children, relatively quiet home needed. Betsy has improved so much with her handling, she now anticipates when you are going to pick her up and will do a little ‘jump’ into your arms. She feels more at ease doing it this way so I allow her to. Please don’t let this put you off, she’s learning and growing daily!
27-11-24 UPDATE Betsy is the first foster dog that I’ve noticed such a big change in her behaviour and characteristics when she feels safe and knows you and a bond has formed. You cannot blame her, for the first year and a half of her life she was treated with unkind hands and voices and not a kind environment, why should she trust people she doesn’t know? Why should she allow people she doesn’t know to pick her up? Once you’ve formed a bond (which can take a while) she really does try her best to be brave and allows you to engage with her much more. She does allow you to pick her up but she will cry slightly still, she absolutely loves cuddles on the bed or any seat, she’s not at the stage where she will jump on your lap, but she will roll all over you and bury her head into you!
Betsy needs someone who will allow her to settle for the first few weeks with little engagement whilst she settles. She needs someone with experience and isn’t off put by her cry that she does when you pick her up. Betsy grooming is a work in progress and she is doable, but isn’t happy about it. Betsy has never once bitten and it’s all just voicing how she feels, which is completely fine and we respect this and listen to her. Betsy needs a kind but playful resident dog to be homed with.
Betsy is not destructive when left alone and settles well. She is 99% house trained, she isn’t a fan of being put in a crate or spending any time in a crate. She travels well (in a crate) and does enjoy quieter walks. Can we find Betsy’s people before Christmas…?
16-12-24 UPDATE
Betsy has been back in foster with us for 2 months, she’s recently been groomed again and she is now back to her ‘normal’ self. Grooming Betsy is no easy task, she is absolutely fine with her body and legs being clipped, but does not tolerate her head or paws, Betsy does have a slit her in left ear which we believe was done by scissors or blades at some point and it’s a huge trauma for her. Betsy is so special to us, and we hope her forever home is the perfect match. Betsy’s home needs no children in the home, she needs a resident dog who isn’t too boisterous. Betsy does walk lead and harness well. She is also 99% toilet trained. When she knows you she’s your best friend. Overall Betsy has been in our care since April as she’s been adopted 3 times but returned as she isn’t a fan of being picked up, she doesn’t bite but she does cry quite loudly - she has gone so much better with me but it’s taken 8 months to build that bond and trust. Betsy trusts me and that’s all she needs ~ that’s not too much to ask?

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
