28-03-2024 Simmer is a poor scared little man who has a sensitive soul and come to us from a breeder to find his forever home. Simmer is overwhelmed to find himself here at the moment and is feeling quite unsure around us. When we approach him in the kennel he does run away and when in our arms he remains quite tense but will allow you to stroke him. Simmer will need a secure home as he is a flight risk and runs when scared. Simmer shows some of his sweet personality when he is around his kennel friends and will snuggle up with them in bed and follow them around the play yard. He is looking for a kind calm adult only home who has experience in scared ex-breeding dogs that haven't had much socialisation with people. Simmer will need an adult only home as children will be too overwhelming for him. He has arrived very matted so will be groomed soon and has dirty ears which we are cleaning. Simmer will need at least one confident resident dog in his new home that is happy to have him snuggle up next to them and that he can gain comfort and confidence from in his new home. He will need kind understanding adopters that can help him learn new skills such as housetraining and walking on a lead/harness when he is ready, this may take some time and he will need adopters that understand this. Simmer is such a dear little man who just needs someone to love him and give him time to realise how much love is waiting for him in the world. Simmer is being treated for a mild ear infection.

18-04-24 UPDATE
Simmer had a hair cut last week!!! Doesn’t he look beautiful!? He was very nervous with the clippers being around his head so he may not look perfect, but he’s a lot more comfortable now and that’s all that matters. He had so many knots and matts in his fur, it must have been so sore for him .. bless his little heart. Simmer is making good progress here and although he is still frightened of being handled, his playful side is starting to emerge and it’s just amazing. He absolutely loves the play yard and running around with his friends. He sprints around so fast and I think he just really appreciates having the freedom to be able to do so. He’s also discovered toys which he’s now enjoying a lot .. especially really hard ones that he can proper chew down on. Simmer has only just been moved to my section so I’m going to take it slow with him in regards to touching him and picking him up as I want to build a relationship with him first. I don’t think pushing him out of his comfort zone will work for him at all, so I’ll follow his lead and do things as and when he’s ready. I’ll keep you all updated on his progress!

16-05-24 UPDATE
Simmer has been with me for just about a month now and he has definitely made a lot of progress in that time. He becomes more and more comfortable around me every day and he’s now more than happy to approach me to give me lots of sniffs, and sometimes a kiss if I’m lucky. He’s incredibly curious about me and will follow me wherever I go, and will always choose to sit right next to me when I sit down on the floor. He is still very hand shy and still doesn’t like being picked up, but I have been working on ‘touch’ with him and we are making progress. I’ve started very gently stroking underneath his chin whenever he’s near me and he’s slowly starting to accept it. He’ll still move away most of the time, but I can tell he is SO intrigued by it and a part of him wants it to happen. I’m going to keep doing it and I’m really hoping that something will click with him soon, and he’ll start enjoying it! Today I managed to finish his groom and shave the hair on his head off. As mentioned in my previous update, he was too nervous to do this at first, but today I felt that he was ready .. and he was! He was a little wriggly, but it only took me about 5 minutes and I was SO proud of him. He really is trying so hard to be brave. In the right home, I do think Simmer will blossom into an absolutely cracking little dog. I do think he’ll be very nervous at first, but once he’s settled and he gets to know his adopters, I think he’ll come right out of his shell and let his wonderful personality loose.

13-06-24 UPDATE
Simmer is still trying his absolute hardest to be a brave boy and he is definitely getting there, but I think being in kennels is holding him back. In a calm and quiet home environment, I really do think he’d make progress a lot faster. He is still a lot better than he was when he first arrived, but I can’t help but think of how amazing he could be in the right home! Today is a very rainy day at the rescue so I’m spending most of my time sat in the kennels and spending time with all of my dogs .. Simmer included! This morning I’ve put a harness on him for the first time just to start getting him used to it. I don’t think he’s ready to be taken out yet, but I’m going to keep doing this every day and slowly introduce a lead to ease him into it. Because he’s so food motivated, I’m hoping this will help when the time does come! But I’ll keep you all updated. I really hope this boy doesn’t stay here for much longer!!

28-06-24 UPDATE
Hi Simmer here ! I am using my pal as a pillow as she feels so comfy. I have only been in foster for 5 days and it’s been so hot since I got here. The other dogs are so kind to me but I need a home of my own.
You see I had never been in a home before till I came on foster. I like the comforts of it all, lots of doggie pals to play with, lovely yummy food, laying in front of a cool fan when it’s hot, the noises of the tv and the radio and of my foster Mum and Dad talking .
There are lots of toys here which I love . If you can offer me a home with at least one other kind dog who can show me the ropes of living in a home . I will need an adult that is home most of the time so I get to know and trust them.
Oh and at least two walks a day ( once I master the art of lead walking first of course). Also a comfy bed of my very own would be nice too. X?

09-08-24 UPDATE
Hi Simmer here. I am getting braver but still don’t like to be touched. I allow my Foster Mum to stroke me under my chin and I seem to enjoy this.
I don’t like Men at all. My Foster Dad has tried to make friends with me but I don’t trust any men. Infact if he is in the same room as me when my dinner is being served I won’t eat my dinner! I prefer to keep my eyes on him. My foster mum says I will get better but for this reason I would prefer an all female home. That way I can really relax and not have to worry if a man is nearby.
I am a comical little chap and love other dogs and toys to play with. I especially like the disabled Dog Charley here as I lick his face and want to cuddle up next to him. Eventually he lets me but puts a protest up first about it.
As I don’t like being touched or picked up it’s been hard to get a lead on me as my Foster Mum wanted to do this as I got more confident and slowly so I could relax whilst having this put on. However Mum thinks now I need to start Harness training very soon to get me ready for my new home as and when it comes along.
I will need a kind dog to be my friend, two meals a day, a few treats to make me happy, a comfy bed that has room for two, so me and your own dog can snuggle together, two walks a day and a human that is around most of the day.
If you think you are who I am looking for then please apply.

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
