19-03-2024 Paisley is a very gentle natured girl and is quite worried at the moment and has come to us from a breeder to find her forever home. Paisley will run away from us when we approach her but once given time she settles in our presence but does look at us with big worried eyes. Paisley will need a calm adult only home that can give her lots of love and tlc as she learns to trust and love her new family. Paisley adores her kennel friends and has never known life without the company of other dogs. She will need a kind confident resident dog that she can copy around the house and is happy for Paisley to copy them around the home and comfort when she is unsure. She will need an adult only home as she will find children too overwhelming at the moment. Paisley has never lived in a home before so will need understanding adopters that can help her learn new skills such as housetraining and learning to walk on a lead/ harness when she is ready. Paisley has some old wounds inside her ear which our vets will look at. Paisley is such a dear soul who has the sweet gentle personality and will need to some time in a loving home to be able to flourish and come out of her shell. Paisley has a Grade 2-3 Heart murmur which requires ongoing medication and will need to be monitored by adopters vets, Our vets have advised that further investigation by adopters would be very beneficial to fully assess her condition.

23-03-24 UPDATE
Paisley has seen our vets to be neutered and is receiving treatment for mild hyperplasia in both ears. She is recovering well after surgery. The vets have noted that Paisley needs to lose weight as she has arrived overweight.

10-05-24 UPDATE

Paisley has been in foster for nearly two months and we are starting to see her settle in and take comfort from the daily routine. She is sweet soul that is still very scared of human contact and will often urinate in fear even if you gently touch her. Today my heart missed a beat because she freely came up to me alongside her Bernese pals and let me give her the tiniest of strokes then gave me a play bow before backing away again. She takes great comfort from my other Bernese and will join in the gang and follow them around and as she’s got more settled she will often join in running around with them all and rolling in grass. Paisley is kind to all dogs she has met but definitely follows her fellow BMD so would do better in a home where she has at least one confident bernese as a role model. Paisley will need a home experienced with strong and very scared dogs as she will easily panic and try to run with huge strength to escape when she is scared. As her coat is just starting to grow we are now slowly working on building her confidence around grooming which is an important skill she will need when she has her full coat back. Paisley is a darling girl that will need a very quiet home with a very safe and large garden and at least one Bernese friend to help her. She is just starting to show her trust in me and will need someone that can continue this by giving her lots of time, patience and the right home environment to allow her to reveal her true self and become the happy girl I know is in there.

09-08-24 UPDATE

Over the last few months Paisley has become more settled into the routine here and is starting to show some signs of her hidden personality.
We now know some things she loves, such as her bernese companions, dental chews, being outside and recently she is starting to play with her doggy friends although she can be a bit rough as I don’t think she has learnt to play much in her past life. So in many ways she is a typical bernese girl. She also loves being outside with us and will follow us around happily as long as she can be a few meters away in case we try and touch her.
We also know things she hates, being touched especially around her neck, anything attached to her collar even a little ribbon, and loud unexpected noises and any change in her routine. Despite all her terrible fears she shows no aggression but will use all of her strength to escape scary situations. Once stressed she will still wet herself which is so sad to see.
In foster she is now able to run off lead in our secure fields, chasing her pals or mooching around and as she is a Bernese she has found the delights of rolling around in the early morning grass.
It is wonderful to see these times when she seems really happy and is enjoying her freedom and she is often reluctant to come back in. We are slowly building up her confidence being handled, groomed and wearing a short ribbon attached to her collar as a step towards having a lead attached but she needs to take this very slowly.
She will need a very special home with people that have lots of patience, where she can have access to a lot of very secure outside space and at least one other bernese to give her confidence and play with her. Her home would need to be very calm and quiet with people very experienced in supporting and guiding very scared dogs. We are hoping her special person is looking for her but in the meantime we are delighted to see her happy and starting to show her cheeky freedom loving personality.

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
