If you are interested in adopting a dog that does not say it can be homed with a cat and wish us to cat test please let us know and we will be happy to do this.

06-08-24 Maggie originally came to us from a breeder to find her forever home. She was adopted around 3 months ago but has been returned to the rescue as it wasn't quite the right match for her and she was displaying a few behavioural issues.
Maggie is a very worried girl who can panic and make the wrong decisions, particularly if she is feeling unsure. Due to these issues, her adopters felt they had no choice but to return her as they felt she would benefit from a home with people who have experience with dogs with similar behavioural issues.
Maggie will be looking for a calm and quiet ADULT ONLY home where there are no resident or visiting children and would also benefit from a home where there are few visitors and not too much comings and goings. She would like adopters who were around most of the time and who have experience with dogs with similar issues and would work on this with her. Maggie's confidence has grown since she has been adopted and was quite confident within her new home, but still relied heavily on other dogs. She will need a male only resident dog in her new home. Maggie prefers dogs who are her size or larger and can have some issues with small dogs, so could not be homed with any dogs that were smaller than her. Maggie loves to go for walks but is much more nervous outside of the house and will back away from other dogs and humans. She loves treats and will happily take these from your hand. She is happy to accept a gentle fuss and has been very sweet with everyone who has met her at the rescue so far. She was starting to learn all about home life and house training but may need to continue this in her new home. Maggie is a sweet girl and in the right home, with experienced adopters and clear boundaries, she will begin to thrive and will really blossom into a fabulous friend.

Maggie is still quite a nervous girl however she will come up to sniff you and will take treats from you if they are extra tasty. She walks great on the lead but is nervous whenever there are sudden movements or loud noises, so a calm environment will be needed and someone who has experience with worried dogs. She shares her kennel with a male dog who she gets on with very well, so she will need a confident resident male dog to help her settle back into home life and to help her gain some much needed confidence. He should also be pretty chilled and respect her space when she needs it. She cannot be homed with female dogs. Maggie will make a great companion she just needs someone who has the time to work with her, be patient with her and show her she can trust again.

02-12-2024 UPDATE

Maggie is a super super special girly with bounds of character! She originally arrived with us in January, she was adopted for about 3 months but came back to us in August to find a more suitable home. Maggie finds certain things extremely overwhelming and if put in a scary position she can make the wrong decision. Maggie needs humans who can respect her feelings and not push her. We are told she can be very insecure with visitors in the house, so an adult only, quiet house and careful introductions to any visitors will be needed, like separating until she's calm, and not forcing her to say hello if she isn't ready. Maggie depends heavily on her doggy friends for her confidence. She meets and plays with all dogs well, but prefers to share her space with a *male* dog, her size or larger. She also chews their fur in an affectionate way once she has a good bond with them; we use jumpers on the other dog to ensure she won't make them sore here, and I think in a home this will need to be managed/redirected. It is purely affection but she does get a little excessive with it.

Maggie is a whirlwind of fun and entertainment, in the right home I'm sure she will get past her insecurities and thrive. She LOVES her walks here (quiet country lanes,) and she loves going down "the big yard," rolling around on her back and zooming around endlessly! She loves chasing a ball and then destroying it! She will come up to me to have her lead put on as she loves getting out of her kennel. She will come up to me and let me scratch her bum, this is her fave! But she isn't a huge fan of me approaching her, she will still back away and avoid me if I approach- in a home she will create a bond with her person much quicker I think! If I could spend all day with Maggie I absolutely would, she is so special, an absolute gem who just needs humans who won't put her in any situations she's uncomfortable with!

A little hack I've noticed with Maggie that I wanted to make a quick note of: Maggie can be vocal if someone she doesn't know too well comes and sits in her kennel or the yard she's in. I've been sitting with her to try and overcome this and today I discovered that the second she has a lead on she calms down, relaxes completely and even comes to you for a fuss. So an idea for any potential adopters would be that she may find it comforting to have a lead on for guidance while she adjusts and gets to know her people home. And with any introductions to new people it may go best while she's on lead!

Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.
