Stable Chatter 26-03-25
A day full of haynets, horse adventures, and even a surprise lamb rescue – just another day at the rescue!
The day began with the horses eagerly awaiting their fresh haynets. After Edith finished her drive (got to keep her weight in check!), the ponies were turned out to graze, while the two donkeys joined the four Shetlands. As the larger horses tucked into their hay, we mucked out their stalls, prepped their dinners, added copious amounts of supplements, swept the yards, and gave everyone a nice brush. Quarrel and Tucson enjoyed a ride together, followed by Rumour and Sian.
Sage got to try something new today! We’re preparing him to pull a cart, so we’ve been training him to drag a car tire behind him. He’s now progressed to pulling a tire filled with concrete and is doing incredibly well. It won’t be long before he’s pulling the cart!
In the afternoon, the ponies and donkeys swapped places with the larger horses, giving us time to work with them. As the day came to a close, we put down fresh bedding, hung up new haynets, topped up the water, and brought the big horses back in. Of course, Rumour had too much fun outside and got covered in mud, but Brodie did an excellent job cleaning him up!
Dinner time followed, and we made sure to sweep the yard and check that everyone was content and full from their grass-filled bellies. Once the gates were closed, tack was cleaned, and everything was locked up, we were ready to do it all again tomorrow.
In an unexpected turn of events, while hacking out Sage and Tucson, we stumbled upon a lamb wandering down the road! Brodie quickly jumped off Tucson and helped guide the lamb to safety, reuniting it with its flock. Fortunately, the farmer showed up shortly after to catch the lamb and return it to its mom. The horses were absolute stars through the whole ordeal!
