Could You Be A Beagle Hero?

We are looking for Beagle Heroes who will adopt or foster these special dogs.

Considering Adopting a Beagle?

We chat to Yulia and Bea two of our devoted beagle foster parents who have opened their homes and hearts to over 50 beagles between them. Let's delve into the reasons behind their love of this breed and and why you should consider adopting one.

The Ideal Size and Easy Care

Yulia affectionately describes beagles as "a good size" – not towering giants, but substantial enough to earn the title of a "proper dog" by her husband! Their manageable size makes them a perfect fit for various living spaces. According to her, they're easy to care for, boast healthy appetites, and tend to keep themselves relatively clean (with the exception of encounters with fox poo).

Temperament and Personality

Yulia's admiration extends to beagles' lovely temperament. She highlights their friendliness without the clinginess often attributed to companion breeds like poodles. While they're intelligent, they don't require the constant stimulation that other dogs like collies crave. Beagles strike a harmonious balance between activity and relaxation. They're equally content running around in the sunshine or lazing beside you on a rainy day.

Bea, echoes Yulia's sentiments. Beagles' great characters, kindness, and loving nature stand out for her. But what truly steals the show for Yulia is their never-ending optimism. Beagles have an innate belief that everything will eventually work out for the best. Their determination to keep trying, even in the face of challenges amazes her.

A Remarkable Journey of Fostering

Yulia has fostered 30 beagles and Bea has just picked up her 21st, each with their unique stories. They both refute the notion that beagles are more challenging than other breeds.

Can Beagles Live With Cats?

Yulia's experience with beages and cats varies, but she has successfully rehomed beagles to homes with cats and even one with free roaming rabbits, she says it is dependant on the individual dog. Bea's cat lives seperatley from her dogs as she finds beagles can have a prey instinct but she notes that introducing a cat to a young beagle may be a better option.

Beagles and Other Dogs

Yulia says that beagles' skill at getting along with other dogs is exceptional, and their ability to read other dogs' signals helps prevent confrontation and her beagle has helped even dog aggressive dogs to walk with him. Bea agrees that beagles' harmonious interactions with other dogs are evident.

Off-Lead Adventures

Many people believe beagles cannot be let off lead but Yulia's beagle is often off the lead, thanks to lots of training and a GPS tracker just incase. While some beagles are famous for their howling, hers doesn't indulge in the habit. Bea says her three adopted beagles roam off the leash in local fields with no problems. There are so many secure dog fields you can hire now that even beagles with bad recall can enjoy safe off-lead time.

The Misunderstood Reputation

The misconception that beagles are unruly is addressed by Yulia. In her view, this label doesn't accurately represent these wonderful dogs. Bea agrees that beagles' less popularity among adopters may stem from their misunderstood reputation.

The Perfect Beagle Home

For Yulia, a good beagle home requires happy, confident, and easy-going owners. Both say a sense of humour is a must, along with secure fences to accommodate their curiosity. Researching the breed or experience with beagles is a plus.

A Beagle in the Home

As for their behavior at home, Yulia acknowledges their curiosity and warns against leaving food unattended. However, their company and snuggling abilities make up for any mischief. Bea finds that after a good walk and with some indestructible dog toys beagles tend to relax well in the home.

Why Consider Adopting a Beagle?

Their adaptability and joyful partnership make beagles an excellent choice for adoption. Their ability to entertain themselves ensures a lively household. Yulia highlights the strong sense of community among beagle owners, including support on social media and organised meet-ups. Bea says because they're nothing short of amazing, beagles, with their incredible characters, enduring optimism, and adaptability, have carved their place in her hearts.
