If you are interested in adopting a dog that does not say it can be homed with a cat and wish us to cat test please let us know and we will be happy to do this.

04-02-2021 Shakira's exact mix is unknown, but the previous owner who surrendered her in has told us she was a third generation wolf hybrid, which is allowed in this country.  She was brought into us as she has a high prey-drive and was chasing sheep and therefore couldn't remain with the owner.
She doesn't seem to have had much training or boundaries put in place and we've introduced her to a male dog, she was not bothered at all, very fluid, comfortable behaviour. Not interested in the male dog at all.
We then introduced her to a female dog and got the complete opposite reaction, as soon as she saw the female she lunged and was very focused on the female and pulling to get towards her. So we will not consider homing her with a female dog.
Shakira has also displayed some resource guarding towards people and dogs when it comes to toys. This will be further tested but we are looking for an adult only home with no visiting children.
Wolf hybrids are not to be taken without serious consideration. They are not huskies, they are not malamutes - owning a wolf looking dog is not the same as owning a hybrid.
They are very expressive with their behaviour, but if not read by the handler properly they can be quite 'unpredictable'.  We are looking for a home with someone with a proven interest in dog behaviour who understands the psychology of the breed type.
Hybrids do not make good guardian dogs, they are very submissive by nature. They do not do well with strangers so a quieter home would be preferred with adopters that can provide Shakira with multiple walks a day and provide the mental stimulation she needs as well. Due to the nature of the breed and the importance of trust between handler and dog, someone experienced with positive reinforcement and clicker shaping behaviour would be preferred.
As we get to know her more we'll be able to provide updates and further information on training plans - the type of home we're looking for will be very specific and likely to change as we find out more about her particular needs.

23-02-21 UPDATE

I have worked with Shakira a few times and each time she hasn’t shown any issues to me and has shown a very loving side and wants a cuddle but will jump to lick your face so caution is still the best policy as she can jump high. Although she is a lovely girl and loves her cuddles and rolls over for her belly rub, she will need a home without children and as previous mentioned will also need an experienced person who can understand the needs for a dog like this. As you can see from the pictures she is a wonderful dog and a favourite of mine.

02-03-21 UPDATE

Shakira is a very bright, bouncy and loving girl. Her future home will have either older or no children as she is very lively and jumps up but she does do it gently. A home where someone will have extra time for her as she is intelligent and will need her mind worked constantly. A home where giving her the exercise she needs is no problem. A home with an endless supply of tennis balls and squeaky toys where the owner can turn a deaf ear with the noise! While walking her today we saw a female pointer coming toward us and Shakiras stance was in a low humming mode. I corrected her and distracted her and there was no issue when the pointer passed, so I think shakira has had training, so her new home will need someone with dog experience to continue and build on this. To me she is a great fun and happy dog!

If your application is successful you will be home checked and you, all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the dog you want to adopt. All our dogs are micro-chipped, have had at least their first inoculation* and are spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason for not doing so. You must have a safe means of transporting the dog home in a crate or if this is not possible please discuss with Many Tears or the Fosterer when your application is being processed.

* Many Tears uses Vanguard to vaccinate their dogs.  However, this can sometimes be difficult to source at local vets so if you are adopting a dog or puppy that has only had one vaccination please be aware your vets may require you to start the course from the beginning.

Please read our adoption procedures before applying and then complete the adoption form.
