I’ve been working with this precious little girl for just over a month now and even though she’s trying her hardest to be brave, she’s still very overwhelmed being in such a busy environment. She definitely still doesn’t trust us humans, but she is coming closer and closer with the help of some yummy food. She does really love her food so this has helped win her over a little, but we do still have a long way to go.
Target will run away if you approach her, but when you need to pick her up she’ll usually hop into one of the beds in her kennel and then stay still for you to scoop her up. She’s a very good girl at letting you handle her even though she’s completely bewildered by it, bless her. This week I took her into the grooming room for a little pamper session to ease her into it. I trimmed the hair around her eyes and gave her a gentle brush for 5 minutes or so. Again she was very nervous and had no idea what was going on, but she didn’t make a fuss whatsoever. Next week I think I’m going to give her a bath to make her feel fresher!
Target is going to need a very patient and understanding home with adopters who have all the time and love in the world to give to her. She’s a very special girl and because she’s never seen any of the world before, she’ll need to be introduced to everything slowly and carefully. Everything that most dogs see as normal, will be completely alien to her, so this is why her adopters will need to go at her pace and work with her through her worries and fears. I really do think she’ll progress faster in a calm and quiet home environment, so I hope more than anything that someone chooses her and comes to save her soon!
