Twinkle – A Gentle Soul Learning to Trust

Twinkle has been in foster for 3 months and is a beautiful, gentle Bernese who is slowly learning to trust and feel safe after what we suspect has been a difficult past. While her progress is steady, she remains a very reserved girl who needs an understanding and patient home.

Twinkle greets her foster family each morning with a wagging tail and is beginning to accept love and treats, but always on her own terms. She currently prefers to spend her time outdoors, no matter the weather, and can be difficult to coax back inside. In fact, when she feels threatened or overwhelmed, she drops to the ground. For this reason, she needs a very secure garden and is considered a flight risk.

She is still not house trained and isn’t yet comfortable walking on a lead. Although her foster family are gently encouraging her to follow the lead of their resident Bernese, change doesn’t come easily to Twinkle at her age. She will need adopters who can accept her exactly as she is and continue to offer her kindness, patience, and routine.

Twinkle has significant arthritis in her hind legs, with associated muscle wastage. She is on long-term pain relief and supplements, and also receives physiotherapy, which offers some temporary improvement. She will never be a dog for long walks, her happy place is simply pottering about the garden.

Despite her many challenges, Twinkle is a special lady who is enjoying her life in foster alongside her Bernese pals. She finds comfort in their company, and while she may never be a ‘typical’ family dog, she still has so much to give in the right environment.

Twinkle is looking for a quiet, experienced home with a calm resident dog, and adopters who can offer a sanctuary rather than expect a ‘ready-made’ pet. She’s a reminder that love isn’t always loud, it’s sometimes found in the quiet presence of a dog learning to feel safe.
